The day started off with everyone entering lounge. Before anything officially started, Priester gave the group insight on a theory that guys can't express their emotions effectively. Lounge after that was very strong with people expressing how unfair their volleyball game was, to people feeling very accomplished, and Priester venting about disrespectful students. Next we participated in a new game called Mirror. We got a random partner. We had to copy their movements for 20 seconds then the faces they made for 20 seconds. The game went well with everyone taking part and having fun as a group. After the game debrief, we finally received textbooks. We in turn started to read in a fade-in fade-out style while practicing our skills to annotate, to discuss, and to comprehend the text. Lastly we started the leadership style inventory. Our class period was very profitable towards our leadership skills.

T’was another day in Leadership class. We started off class like we usually do, expressing our various emotions by checking in and accepting one another in lounge. Emotions were very versatile with moods ranging from energetic and contemplative to moods of irritation and annoyance. For the most part everyone was on task. However, there were moments when many students were zoning off and engaging in DJ Khaled comments, specifically saying “another one” during random points in lounge.
After lounge, we participated in another icebreaker. This icebreaker involved us receiving two pieces of paper where we wrote down two fears. One fear being a legitimate fear, the second being a fear of ours that might seem ridiculous to others in class. Once we wrote down our fears Priester collected them and began pulling out the papers one at a time and reading them. Instead of trying to guess who the people who wrote the fears were, we were given instructions to close our eyes and snap our fingers if we could relate to the various fears being called out. With a few points of redirection from Priester, this activity went pretty well. After the fear icebreaker, we went on to continue in our discussion about the peer mentor program. The goal of the discussion for the day was to create a plan for setting up the mentor program. The discussion was a hundred percent student-led, with partial check-ups by Priester. Many students shared the role of facilitating the meeting which turned out to be an essential part in making the discussion successful. There were parts in the discussion where a few students were off task and walking all around class, or drawing on their desk instead of participating in the overall discussion, but it’s okay. However, by the end of class we did achieve and even surpassed our goal for the discussion. We even planned out an event that will launch our whole peer mentoring program. We have planned out the event to take place in the auditorium or the red barn Tuesday, October 27th at 8pm. With delegation of jobs and communication with NA, we are pretty confident that this event will be successful. There are still little details that need to be discussed but for the most part the main points were addressed and planned out. By: Star Today in class we did four major things. First, we participated in lounge and the emotions that the students shared were varied. Some people were feeling positive and others negative. The words chosen ranged from irritated and contemplative to relieved and comfortable. Usually in class, lounge takes a while because everybody talks slowly and they have a lot to say, causing the students who aren't talking to stray their attention away from the speaker and lose focus. So, today Ms Priester suggested that we go a little faster, that way people pay better attention and things move quicker.
Next, we played a game called "Honey, If You Love Me, You'll Give Me a Smile." I noticed that every student was engaged and having fun. This activity was different from all the other games we played because usually, there is at least one person who does not participate, giving off bad energy. It seemed to me, that every student was having fun and no one was forced to cooperate. Then, Ms. Priester assigned us a text to read to help us get ideas for a mentor program we're trying to start at SPA. We had to do the activity with a partner, but instead of us choosing our own partner, Ms. Priester assigned us them by seeing what things we had in common. While we read the text, we highlighted things that stood out to us that we could actually do here at SPA. We also annotated things like questions, concerns, or comments. During this activity, I noticed that everyone worked pretty well with each other and they were communicating their ideas with each other. I noticed that some students were goofing around, but with some redirecting from Ms. Priester, they got back on track. Lastly, as a class, we had a discussion about the text we read and the points that we pulled from it. I think the discussion went very well. I noticed that most students were engaged and had a lot to say. I also saw that some students were being leaders and making sure everyone had a chance to talk. Overall, I think today's class went very well and that is was productive. Today in class we had our longest/best discussion yet. As a class, we talked about past events on campus and how it affected the staff and students. For example, after the campus fires people on campus had to come together in safety and to help in losses. We also spoke on the older kids at SPA being role models or mentors to the younger kids. We discussed how us leaders are willing to start a mentor program in order to help the underclassmen who need guidance. Ms. Priester said we can work to form a mentor program if we make it.
