About two weeks ago Ms. Priester was gone at a conference and my English 12 teacher Ms. Ramirez (@MsRamirez203) came to sub for her. Ms. Ramirez is totally obsessed with ethos, pathos and logos. She taught us the basic steps and information to learn about what they are. We looked at websites about the food industry. We looked at Fix Food and The Meatrix. She made us take notes and figure out was the author trying to make us feel, whether it was ethos, logos, or pathos. As we watched the film, we jotted down some notes about the author’s message, extra information about how GMOs are in everyday foods, and how Monsanto seeds are killing the earth. After we watched the film, we gathered our notes and made a table with all the information that we had and stated whether it was ethos, logos, or pathos. When Ms. Priester returned, she had made us go back and fix our tables because knowing Ms. Priester she has high expectations for our work because she tends to geek out over tech things and how you can make your work look better. She made us add a title at the top of the table and color code the row. As a result of this lesson, now when I look at websites and watch tv, I can tell when they're trying to use ethos, logos, or pathos to reach the audience. I know how to take notes in a table. A'Janea is going into her senior year at SPA. She is a committed member of the yearbook staff and often tutors her peers in English class.
