Thursday: Talking Circle and More Mindset Chapter 2

10/23/2015

We had a circle at the beginning of class. Elijah spoke about what he learned from by being disrespectful yesterday. Andres gave his input on how to behave in class. We shared our feeling we had some positive things to say. There was no game to play today. Then we continued to read Chapter 2 of Mindset, starting with the section titled Turning Knowledge into Action. The message of this section was that effort can help you when you fail and you do good. Priester’s goal is to keep everyone to be able to talk nice to each other.

Wednesday: Mirror Image, W Words, Mindset Chapter 2

To start our good morning off we shared our feelings, some were positive some weren’t. Priester pointed out that guys are shy to speak and girls are sort of better at talking, but sharing will help everybody in the future.  Elijah reminded our fellow Dragons to go to the game on Friday the 23rd of October. We continued class by letting Gober remind us what happened yesterday.  We learned about the W’s: where, were, we’re, and wear. Next up, we played a game called Mirror Image. Then, we worked on reading chapter two of Mindset sitting in a circle.

Tuesday: "Junior Birdman" and More Mindset Chapter 2 - by Gober

Yesterday, when the class was sharing feelings we were all feeling calm and and happy. After we finished sharing our feelings, we sang a song called "Junior Birdman."  It was super fun because it reminded of kindergarten. The class also did a review of where, we're, were, and wear. Next, we wrote for ten minutes in our Grammar Notebooks.  We also read in our Mindset books about these topics:  "Special, Superior, Entitled," "Mindsets change of Meaning of Failure," "Defining Moments", and "My Success is Your Failure." These had all valuable lessons about the ways the both mindsets work in different scenes in life.

"Honey, if you love me, you'll give me a smile." - "Honey, I love you, but I just can't...ha! ha!" - Cheering up grumpy students and our favorite TA/SPA alumna Miss Yohita. #sanpasqualacademy #EQ (Inspired by @ronihabib at #gafesummit San Diego)

Today in class we did our usual talk which is about our feelings. Everyone seemed to have some type of despair going on except for Priester. Next we played a game called "Honey, If You Love Me." Everyone participated. After the game, almost everyone had a smile on their face. After that, we did a book talk and book updates. Gober and Ana shared out for a book talk. For our grammer keepers, Priester explained the contraction "we're" = we are. We wrote for 10 minutes about a short story or event including the contraction we're. After we are done reading, Priester set up a Socrative to check what we learned.  You can view our scores here.
After that was done, Edgar passed out our Mindset books and sets up the reading desks to create a healthy reading environment. We read part of Chapter 2.  As Priester read to us, we annotated our books by underlining and adding connections.  We read about potential, tests, and anecdotes about growth and fixed mindsets.

Priester said she would make an EdPuzzle about mindsets for tonight’s homework.
